YAY!

I think my mum was right when she told me time goes faster as you get older.
First year uni's already done!

As Scat Cat* said,"Why that's craaazy and outraaageous!"

But...the festive season can truly begin!!

To match, iTunes have a really good looking holiday range.
I reckon these guys are keepers - especially the one on the end :)

BOXES

Studying for the exam that will mark the end of first year uni(!)...decided to make my notes just a tad different than the usual B & W notes.
(If you've noticed the content in the pictures - yes, it's Linguistics again, just by co-inky-dink*).

*Can someone please tell me how you would spell this 'alternative' form of coincidence...there seems to be no way that looks 'right', my friend and I have deliberated over this before, I think we came up with a couple of contenders but this one's the only one I can remember for now....
coinkydink minus the hyphens looks like it's read as coinky-dink (coink as in rhyming with the sound a pig makes - oink).

INFOGRAPHICS

It's been about a month and ten days (?) since I've last seen by blog...not as bad as I thought actually. :)

Today's going to be all about infographics - a growing interest of mine over the year.

These two guys (up there) were stored away in my (accumulating) 'Things to post' pile for a while now.
They came about as I was doing my Linguistics research report which involved making tables and graphs to display my findings etcetera etcetera...(I've never stopped saying etc. without doubling it after watching The King and I). So I thought, what better way to semi-procrastinate while actually doing my assignment than making pie charts that weren't straight of the 'Word' shelf.

The study was on apologies - really makes you think how do you apologise in different situations e.g. to that 'neutral' friend who's a friend but not exactly...anyway...I digress (and ramble). Digress < I like that word.

Right, infographics.

Well these are a few that I stumbled across and evidently, like.
I hope you like them too. :)

PAPER GEMS

I came across asite with polyhedra templates months ago.
I don't know WHY it took me so long to realise I could use them/manipulate them in an attempt to make these paper gems made by the amazing Benja. But as they say, better late than never!

Anyway these are my humble trials of various polyhedra and a single diamond (in the rough << 10 points for you if you know what I'm referncing when I say 'diamond in the rough' :)

I have good reason for making these, they're my 'sketch model's for a project I'm working on for uni.
More on that later :)

STEGOSAURUS

It's been a while...
I'll just ease in with a short post today.

I felt like drawing a stegosaurus. So I did.
I guess I also wanted to do a bit of an animal type sketch like these.

Apparently the steg had one of the smallest brains out of all the dinosaurs.

SYMPATICO

I like that word... sympatico. Must chuck it into a sentence some time.

It's got a bit of a 'rhythm' or something in it... sort of like staccato.

simpatico |simˈpatiˌkō|
adjective    (of a person) likable and easy to get along with.

"... Unfortunately the kingdom and I aren't exactly 'simpatico' at the moment ..."
                                           -Flynn Rider
In the mean time, I've been trying to brush up on my drawing/sketching with random bits and pieces.

"He's too buff, he's too spindly, he's too hard to draw..."

I actually had a different post in mind for today... but I'm just in the mood to do this one after a Disney-ful day. I am sooooooooo grateful that my friends over at BIG PICTURE STUFF shared this discovery with me (knowing my love, yes, LOVE for Aladdin).

The Making of 'Aladdin': A Whole New World was a TV- documentary released in 1992 (boy does that sounds like a long time ago). Please, just watch it...you can atleast get an understanding of today's title. I wish this doco was included on the special features of the DVD. If by any big-humungo-chance the person who uploaded these videos is reading this right now, I just want to THANKYOU TIMES INFINITY!!!!!!!!

The behind the scenes with all the animators, the voices, the magical music team is pure brilliance :)

Learning that this movie was almost not going to be make it is quite insane... a childhood without it is 'unthinkable'!

I'm hoping as I type all this that I don't sound too crazy. Oh well. Everyone's got some sort of thing they can go on and on and on about right? Well..this is my thing (and held back just a notch).

On to another one of my all time Top 3 favourites. Beauty and the Beast.
So I have the VHS but it's sadly missing it's cover :( It's been coverless ever since I was a kid actually... I remember attempting to draw one with Belle in that dress.
Fast forward several years  I've been wanting to draw the Beast. I was intimidated by him (well not by him...but drawing him). Since uni's just around the riverbend corner, I wanted to accomplish some sort of a drawing before getting back into the 'uni routine'. So...a couple of days ago I just did it.
No better way to practise sketching.

Yes someone's missing from the picture (as you'll see at the end) but I think I'll save her for later on... humans are too hard to draw. (Another little thing to be accomplished.)

I was really anxious about drawing the eyes (can you spy a little eye in the second photo?) so I  had to do a test one before I added them to the face. Haha.  Eyes for me, they kind of seem like one of the most important 'elements', even if you do the rest of the body or the face nicely... if you screw up the eyes everything in the drawing comes down a level.
(Arggggggghhh that BIG crease on the left bugs me quite a bit, that's the problem with me... I always manage to get a crease/s  whether I'm reading, writing or drawing and I hate it. Creases just sit there idly, teasing you while you look at them helplessly.)

Anyway...how does he look?

Oh another thing about eyes... I'm in awe of how animators can draw so much expression in them and so accurately too. How do they do that?

Write a Bike | Juri Zaech

Today we say 'see you later alligator to 12 rue Halévy' and move onto another find.
Those pictures of the Apple store were too pretty to be replaced by other posts...but it had to be done.

How amazing are these!

OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!

Exams :)

Just a little side note, that colour there is my absolute favourite highlighter colour. It just makes writing in those exam-y, assessment-y things a nicer sort of task.)

Lunchtime atop a Skyscraper

I love this photo.
(Lunchtime atop a Skyscraper was taken by Charles Ebbets back in 1932.)

I came across it in a lecture a few weeks back, googled it... and I came up with this... :)

Let there be light!

I've been meaning to put this up here for long long time...

How amazinggggggg is this installation by Kirsten Hassenfeld?!!!

It's called Dans La Lune.

Here's a little extract about the name of installation from Rice Gallery.

Kirsten Hassenfeld on Dans la Lune:
Some friends were visiting from France, and one described speaking with her doctor about a medication. She had inquired if it would make her "dans la lune." When I asked her what that meant, she said, "dopey, drugged." Later I looked up the French idiom and found that it referenced daydreaming. "Il est dans la lune" can be translated as "He’s got his head in the clouds," or "He’s on another planet." Dans la Lune is a perfect title because in my work I try to create an imaginary place that relates to our longings for a better, grander existence.

Un mois plus tard...

One month later...

I've neglected this space for a while now. Time to fill it up with some musings.

For the last few days I may as well have had my gluteus maximus stuck to my spinny *IKEA desk chair.
I've been glued to it for hours on end working on my project for uni. We had to use Rhino and I think I actually strained my right hand/arm muscle from excessive clicking. Pleased to say that I've finished the digitising part and excessive clicking should be a thing of the past...for now.

It might sound a tad confuzzling, you might not even understand what I'll be saying in the next few lines, perhaps you will...
but here I go trying to tell you about this project called BODYSPACE.

The brief is to create a complex paper form that will include a light source to act like a lantern and to be worn somewhere on the body. The design is inspired by a natural process (and to top it off there is some sort of a 'rule' that governs the design).

Soak that in for a bit.

Don't get it?

They do say, pictures tell a thousand words.

Voilà, mon prototype..or rather parts of it.

Just a little 'fun-fact': as I was typing IKEA I made sure to capitalise every letter.
Here's my reasoning, apart from the fact that its just a great great great place to shop there's also a more 'grammatical' side to it.
Here comes the 'Did you know?' part.
IKEA is actually an acronym that is made up of the initials Ingvar Kamprad (the  founder of IKEA) plus the letters of Elmtaryd and Agunnaryd (the farm and village where he grew up).
So....
Ingvar + Kamprad + Elmtaryd + Agunnaryd = IKEA!

Until next time! À la prochaine!
